Product Description

Fiber optic adapters (also called couplers) are designed to connect two fiber optic patch cables together. They come in versions to connect single fibers together (simplex), two fibers together (duplex), or sometimes four fibers together (quad) and even eight fibers together.

Adapters are designed for multimode or singlemode cables. The singlemode adapters offer more precise alignment of the tips of the connectors (ferrules). Note: It is ok to use singlemode adapters to connect multimode cables, but you should not use multimode adapters to connect singlemode cables. This can cause misalignment of the small singlemode fibers and loss of signal strength (attenuation).

Product Key Features

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: What is the main purpose of a fiber optic adapter? A: Fiber optic adapters, or couplers, are primarily used to connect two fiber optic patch cables together, allowing for seamless signal transmission between cables.
Q: Can I use singlemode adapters for multimode cables? A: Yes, it is acceptable to use singlemode adapters to connect multimode cables. However, you should never use multimode adapters for singlemode cables as it causes signal loss (attenuation).
Q: What materials are used in the alignment sleeves? A: High-quality fiber adapters utilize zirconia ceramic or phosphorous bronze sleeves to ensure precision alignment of the fiber ferrules.
Q: What are the typical insertion loss levels for LC Duplex adapters? A: For single mode UPC LC Duplex adapters, the insertion loss (IL) is typically ≤0.2 dB, ensuring high performance in network applications.
Q: Are these adapters compliant with international standards? A: Yes, these adapters comply with TIA/EIA, IEC, and Telcordia standards, and are fully RoHS compliant.
Q: What applications are LC adapters suitable for? A: They are ideal for high-density environments including Data Centers, FTTx (FTTH, FTTA, etc.), Telecommunication networks, and Fiber Optic Cabinets.
